Xtream Codes vs M3U link: what’s the difference and which one should you use?

Use Xtream Codes whenever your app offers it: you type the server URL, username and password, and the app loads channels, the TV guide, movies, series and replay separately, faster and better organized. Use the M3U link only for players that don’t support Xtream Codes, such as VLC on a computer.
Two ways to sign in to the same service
Your IPTV access can be entered in a player in two formats. Both give access to the same subscription; only the way the app receives the information changes.

What an Xtream Codes sign-in looks like
The app asks for three fields: the server URL (for example http://server.example:8080, with the port if there is one), your username and your password. In IPTV Smarters Pro, the option is called Login with Xtream Codes API; in TiviMate, Add playlist › Xtream Codes; in XCIPTV, it’s the first screen.
What an M3U link looks like
It is a single web address that already contains your username and password, often ending with type=m3u_plus. You paste it into the player’s “playlist URL” field. Because the whole list downloads at once, it can take a while with a large catalog.
Common mistakes
- Missing port or “http://”: copy the server URL exactly as in your access email.
- Upper/lower case: usernames and passwords are case-sensitive.
- Extra space at the end when copying from an email: delete it.
- Empty TV guide with M3U: add the EPG link, or switch to Xtream Codes.
